NOTICE OF CANCELLATION of May 27, 2025 Special Planning Commission Meeting

NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF MAY 27, 2025 SPECIAL PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING TO: VOLINIA TOWNSHIP CLERK MEMBERS OF PLANNING COMMISSION TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR HIGH GRADE MATERIALS DIRECTOR OF CASS COUNTY ROAD COMMISSION SPECIAL TOWNSHIP ATTORNEY BETH MIDDLETON-POMPEY FROM:  RANDY CUTHBERT, PLANNING COMMISSION CHAIRPERSON DATE:  MAY 24, 2025 In light of the recent resignation of the member of the Planning Commission who had been serving as the liaison from the Township Board, the resignation of the acting zoning administrator for the special land use application, and resignation of the firm reviewing the application, I have determined that it is necessary to cancel the special Planning Commission meeting scheduled for May 27, 2025. It is recognized that there is a need to continue the proceedings of the Planning Commission to work toward a finalization of the special land use application for mining filed by High Grade Materials as quickly as possible, and that it is unfortunate that this meeting cancellation was necessary. However, it will be necessary for the Township Board to provide a replacement member for the Planning Commission to fill the vacancy created by the person who had been serving as the liaison to the Township Board. This replacement member will undoubtedly be a voting member on the Commission when a final recommendation is made to the Township Board on the proposed special land use, and it would be counter-productive for the Planning Commission to meet at this critical stage of the process in the absence of the liaison to the Board and an acting zoning administrator to the Planning Commission. All efforts will be made to reschedule the meeting without delay once the Township Board has filled these two positions, potentially as early as mid-June 2025.

Trustee Replacement

TRUSTEE REPLACEMENT for VOLINIA TOWNSHIP

Trustee Denny Grice has stepped down from his position on the Volinia Township Board.

We now need Volinia qualified electors of the Township of interest to reach out with a desire to be considered by the Board as Denny’s replacement.  This position will run through the November 2026 midterm election at which time the position will be open for election.  General meetings are once a month on the second Monday of the month with some additional special meetings as required.  The per diem pay for the Township Board is $100.00 and for the Planning Commission is $65.00 if assigned.

As well as a position of Trustee on the Board this individual may be the ex-official Board member on the Planning Commission which currently has a Special Use Request for a gravel mining operation from High Grade.  You would be responsible to delve quickly into the information and current status of this application and attend quarterly meetings at a minimum of the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission is also involved in zoning and planning for the Township.

If you are interested please email your interest to Supervisor Chris Brooks at supervisor@voliniatownship.gov. by June 2, 2025.  No phone calls please.  Please include your full name, address, contact information and pertinent background information.  We will be deliberating the candidates with the goal of selecting a replacement trustee at our June 9, 2025 Board meeting at 6:30 PM.
