Electrical Inspection Information
The State of Michigan 2023 code adoption will take place on March 12, 2024. This adoption is for all except one- and two-family homes. The Part 8 rules have been amended to include exterior service disconnects and surge protection for all one-and two-family homes even though the 2015 MRC will still be the correct code. This includes service and panel changes in existing homes. Residential service changes will now be required to have a feeder for the existing sub panel and a circuit for a surge suppression device. SPD's are required in all distribution panels even in the same structure. The Part 8 language for non-transferable permits has been replaced in 80.19a where contractors are no longer able to work under a homeowner permit.
Cass County inspections will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, St Joe County inspections will be Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will be for office work and special case by case inspections.
Homeowner's reminder, only licensed contractors can install electrical equipment other than the occupying owner.
Permanent service approvals will not be granted until rough is complete on new construction and fire damage.
Be sure to call for all required final inspections.
